DUBAI // An oral health campaign for workers in Dubai has been launched by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai and chairman of Dubai Executive Council.

The Hamdan bin Mohammed Oral Hygiene Initiative for works is aimed at spreading awareness about oral health and conducting exams to provide treatment and surgeries for workers, state news agency Wam reported.

“As the world celebrated this month the International Workers Day, we want to celebrate this event in the UAE for the basic category of workers in a different way,” said Sheikh Hamdan.

“Since the oral and dental treatment is highly expensive, the oral hygiene initiative to support the workers is expected to meet the urgent needs of low income category of workers. Also, the lack of health education makes them more vulnerable to mouth and teeth health problems.”

The initiative is aimed at expressing gratitude to workers who contribute to Dubai’s progress, he said, calling on private companies to pay more attention to this category of workers, and to launch charitable initiatives to support them.

Saif Al Ketbi, director general of the Office of the Crown Prince of Dubai, said Sheikh Hamdan would bear all costs of the survey tests and necessary oral treatments for workers. The first phase, expected to last to the end of the year, includes tests and treatment of more than 2,000 workers.
